Volcanic Ash Disruption Reinforces Importance of Remote Working Solutions
London, UK (April 28, 2010) – Arkadin Global Conferencing today announced the launch of the second official Climate Care Day - a working day without travel - on Friday, October 29. With the recent volcanic ash disruption causing chaos for travellers and businesses alike, along with significant financial costs, initiatives such as Climate Care Day demonstrate that workers must become less reliant on air travel.
The European aviation industry is estimated to emit 344,109 tons of carbon dioxide each day. While travel will always remain necessary, through offering viable alternatives to travel we can help reduce annual carbon emissions. Close to 500 companies from 47 countries pledged to replace business travel with remote meetings on the first Climate Care Day on March 26, making it a phenomenal success.
“The enthusiastic response we received for Climate Care Day proves that organisations of all sizes and sectors are keen to make a positive contribution to the environment. Initiatives like Climate Care Day show that through small changes we can achieve this. Good for the environment and for a company’s bottom line, these sustainable business operations make sense,” said Olivier de Puymorin, Arkadin CEO.
The volcanic eruption in Iceland has shown how susceptible we are to ‘a change in the wind’.Despite all these problems, it can still be ‘business as usual’ with stranded business travelers utilizing remote collaboration solutions.
“I’ve been stranded in Egypt after a personal trip and Arkadin audio conferencing solutions helped me a lot during this period. These solutions enabled me to continue working efficiently on my different projects through regular contact with partners and co-workers based in Europe,” comments Thierry Ailleret, Head of Supply Chain Improvement department at Arcelor Mittal.
Arkadin, with the support of WWF, is calling for more businesses to get involved in the second official Climate Care Day. Through continued support, the business community can make a significant impact and help grow sustainable business operations.
